1970 Topps Thurman Munson rookie card

Thurman Munson
Year:
1970
Set:
Topps

This 1970 Topps Thurman Munson rookie card is the first card of the legendary New York Yankees catcher. Probably the top card of the 1970 Topps baseball card set, this card has always been popular with collectors. Even though Munson's 1971 Topps baseball card is more recognizable, this rookie card is moderately expensive on the open market. Despite only playing nine full big league seasons, Munson was an American League All Star seven times. In 1970, he was named the A.L. Rookie of the Year and in 1976, the A.L. Most Valuable Player. Munson won the World Series with the Yankees in 1977 and 1978. The fact that Munson's career was cut short by his premature death during the 1979 season likely led to his exclusion from the Baseball Hall of Fame; however, he is remembered as one of the greatest players of the 1970s and is a Yankee legend.
