1979-80 O-Pee-Chee Wayne Gretzky

This 1979-80 Wayne Gretzky O-Pee-Chee rookie card is among the most recognizable hockey cards of all time. Consisting of a classic picture of a young Gretzky in his Edmonton Oilers uniform and a distinctive blue border, this rookie card can fetch prices in the thousands in the right condition. The pinnacle of contemporary hockey cards, this one is but a dream for most, but many 1980s hockey collectors have been able to add this to their collection. Because of the significance of this card in hockey collecting circles, even a beat up copy can be fairly expensive. If this one is out of your price range, you may want to target one of Gretzky's O-Pee-Chee cards from subsequent years which will be much more affordable. The 1979-80 Wayne Gretzky Topps rookie card has exactly the same card front as this one but is a bit more affordable. The Great One is considered by most to be the best hockey player that ever lived. He won multiple Stanley Cups and is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.
