Mark McGwire
Year:
1985
Set:
Topps

This 1985 Topps Mark McGwire rookie card is the XRC (extended rookie card) of the prolific former big league slugger. Featuring an awful picture of McGwire in a terrible hat, this card is collected more for its significance than any aesthetic value. Though he didn't make his major league debut until late in the 1986 season, this card was included in the 1985 Topps set because McGwire was a member of the 1984 USA Olympic baseball team. McGwire became a twelve time All Star and was the first baseman for the 1989 World Series Champion Oakland Athletics. He hit over 500 home runs including breaking Roger Maris' single season home run record in 1998 while with the St. Louis Cardinals. Steroid accusations have clouded McGwire's stardom and his popularity with collectors in recent years.

McGwire helped ruin baseball. He was one of the guys who thought he was bigger than the game. He roided his way to fame and riches. Do you think he cares that he doesn't have any respect from anyone. That was sick how Maris' kids were there to congratulate him and the guy who caught the record breaking ball gave it back to him.

stariods dont make you hit the ball they just give you more muscle and a smaller penis so really he could have hit the homeruns without roids

they do enable you to hit the ball father. i wonder how many of those dingers would have been caught on the warning track the year that he broke Maris' record

Your text is incorrect in describing the McGwire card...the Oakland A's did not win the 1990 world series...in fact, they were swept in 4 games by the Cincinnati Reds. The last great Reds team were led by the "Nasty Boys" and center fielder Eric Davis.

you're right, they won that 1989 bay area series vs the Giants when the earthquake delayed the series. fixed.

Your full of chit! roids were accepted by everyone who was anyone in Major league baseball at that time. Everyone knew they were using them and no one cared as long as they were making millions for the owners. Get over it! its a huge part of our favorite past time and its embarassing to ridicule a product of our society.

hi, was wondering what if any difference the word reprint on the back of card has on the cards value ?
can you pleas email me with your thoughts on this, i have a crd that has this on back is this good or bad ?
thx
stik

usually reprints have little to no value. If i were you i'd looks at the copyright to see what you actually have and then check values on eBay.
