1986 Topps Cecil Fielder

This 1986 Topps Cecil Fielder rookie card is a perfect example of a card that is sought after as a result of the player's popularity as opposed to the player's greatness. Coming from the remarkably rookie deficient 1986 Topps baseball card set, this card is actually the gem of the set. The fact that it is arguably the best card of the set is more a factor of how bad the set as as opposed to how good this rookie card is as you would have to pay no more than a dollar to buy this card in mint condition. It's kind of a shame because the difficult black top bordered set would have had a some potential if Topps would have included a few more decent rookies and kept the production numbers down a bit. Despite being a home run hitter playing in a home run era, Fielder ended his career with only 319 homers. Fielder is most remembered for hitting 51 home runs for the Detroit Tigers in 1991 the season after a one year hiatus in Japan. He became the first player in almost 15 years to hit 50 and immediately became a star. The three time All Star won a World Series Championship with the New York Yankees in 1996.
