Dirk Nowitzki and Dallas Mavericks Finally Take Home the Championship

By site_admin - Posted on 19 June 2011

After years of coming up just short, the Dallas Mavericks, led by Dirk Nowitzki, have finally captured the NBA crown after beating the Dwyane Wade/Lebron James/Chris Bosh led Miami Heat 4 games to 2 in the final. This can be considered vindication for one of the top players of all time in that the knock against Nowitzki was that he was never able to win the big one. Nowitzki was not alone in this one as a Mavs team full of veterans including Jason Kidd and Jason Terry silenced a Heat team full of young superstars. Nevertheless, Nowitzki was named MVP.

This championship may finally bolster the card collecting cred for Nowitzki, as despite being considered in the top handful of players to ever put on a uniform, Nowitzki has been surprisingly overlooked on the basketball card collecting market. Perhaps now standard Dirk rookie cards (like this 1998-99 Fleer Ultra Dirk Nowitzki rookie card) will pick up a bit on the open market.

Also, Jason Kidd cards should get a slight bump as this is his first championship after a great 16 year career. This will no doubt solidify his place among the top point guards of all time. Rookie cards like his 1994-95 Topps Finest issue will be certain to at least hold their value now.

Heat fans, don't worry. You still have three of the top superstars in the league in their prime. This publicity gained during their run will only serve to increase the popularity (or notoriety) of all players, and their collectibles will be among the top collectibles in the sport for years to come.
